Medical Care at School

The Medical Room at Doan Thi Diem Primary School - Hanoi is fully equipped with essential medical devices and supplies. Dedicated medical staff are always on duty at the school to monitor students’ health. If a student experiences health issues, they will be monitored in the medical room. Depending on the situation, the medical staff will immediately contact parents to coordinate timely handling.

In certain necessary cases, students may be taken to a medical facility for further examination or specialized treatment (e.g., high fever, surgical intervention, suspected fractures, severe allergies, etc.). The school will prioritize choosing medical facilities near the school and suitable for the student's condition.

Procedure for handling accidents, illness, and medical emergencies

1.1. Classification of accidents, allness, and emergencies

To ensure appropriate and timely handling, the school classifies the severity of accidents and illnesses as follows:

  • MINOR accidents or illnesses: Includes conditions such as headache, cough, fever below 39°C, simple wounds, nosebleeds, and other illnesses or accidents that do not cause serious health consequences.
  • SERIOUS accidents or illnesses: Includes (but is not limited to) high fever above 39°C with shortness of breath, accidents causing significant bleeding but the student remains conscious with limited movement, second- or third-degree burns, foreign body aspiration but the student can still breathe, poisoning, allergies without symptoms of irritation, shortness of breath, or cyanosis.
  • CRITICAL accidents or illnesses: Includes (but is not limited to) severe acute conditions such as heart disease, recurrent asthma causing respiratory arrest, fourth- or fifth-degree burns, arterial lacerations, foreign body aspiration with agitation, cyanosis, respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, drowning with unconsciousness, or respiratory failure.

1.2. For minor accidents or illnesses

When a student experiences a minor accident or illness, the medical staff will inform the homeroom teacher about the situation and the actions taken. The homeroom teacher is responsible for notifying the parents by phone and obtaining their opinion on whether the student should continue to be cared for at school or be picked up to rest at home.

1.3. Medical emergencies for serious and critical accidents or illnesses

In the event of a student experiencing a serious accident or acute illness at school, the school will urgently contact the parents by all means. Parents are kindly requested to promptly inform the school office of any changes to home, work, or emergency contact numbers to ensure smooth communication.

The school will promptly take the student to the nearest capable emergency hospital, unless parents have designated another clinic or hospital. The school’s medical staff will accompany the student to the medical facility and wait until the parents arrive.

1.4. Commitment to emergency handling

Parents authorize the school (in situations deemed urgent and necessary by the school) to seek medical advice and treatment for the student. Parents agree to pay or reimburse the school for any costs related to medical consultation and treatment for the student in such cases.
